#11 MANAGING ADHD DURING MAJOR LIFE TRANSITION

ADHD stands for Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. It is said to be a  neurodevelopmental disorder that affects both children and adults negatively. ADHD is characterized by symptoms of inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity.Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a condition that affects people's behaviour negatively and make them restless, which may cause trouble concentrating and may act on impulse.

CAUSES OF ADHD

These actually cause of ADHD is not found, however there are some contributing factors which includes:

1.Psychological factors: Traumatic life events at early or even adult stage can contribute to developing ADHD, abuse or neglect  may also contribute to the development of ADHD.

2.Environmental factors: Factors such as prenatal exposure to alcohol or tobacco, premature birth, low birth weight, and exposure to lead may increase the risk of developing ADHD.

3.Brain structure and function: People with ADHD may have differences in the structure and function of certain areas of the brain, particularly those involved in attention and impulse control.they can also develop some problem like anxiety and depression.

4.Genetics: When ADHD tends to run in families, suggesting that there may be a genetic component to the disorder. Studies have shown that genes associated with dopamine regulation, a neurotransmitter that plays a role in attention and motivation, may contribute to the development of ADHD.

SYMPTOMS OF ADHD

1.People with ADHD don't give close attention to details or they always  makes unnecessary mistakes at work, or with other activities.

2.The like taking risks in activities,with little or no regard for their personal safety or the safety of others.

  1. They have inability to deal with stress.
  2. They are extreme impatience and always have mood swings, irritability and a quick temper.

5.They sometimes want to  start new tasks before finishing old ones

6.they have very poor organisational skills.

7.Zero ability to focus or prioritise.

8.very forgetful.

HOW TO MANAGE ADHD

1.Meditate:

Daily meditation is a  practice that helps improve your ability to pause before acting. You can start gradually day after day, while you increase the time as time goes on.

2.Do it:

Whenever you set something to do, just do it immediately. When life gets busy or distractions come along the ADHD mind would find it hard to concentrate .No matter how bored it may feel, take a deep breath, discipline your self and just do the thing.

3.Exercise:

Daily exercise is an excellent way to keep the body active and also do away with the feelings of restlessness that feed impulsive behaviors. Take at least 20 to 40 minutes a day to do an exercise you love and enjoy. Even a daily walk is good and enough for major benefits.

4.Set routine calendar:

Keep things simple by building out list that you can follow each day or  week.You can  use a wall calendar and mark out with colors to remind yourself what to do or  chores you should be doing on which day.

5.Hygiene:

keeping good hygiene is a path way to good health,staying on top of hygiene routines can sometimes be boring and hard, yet it is vital to health,try and make things simple even when  you’re struggling, treat yourself well and be kind to yourself in every situation.

6.Set boundaries:

Learn to say no where is necessary.stop burning yourself out by allowing yourself not to participate on something you plan to do, force yourself to stick to your plans,set boundaries and abide strongly by it.

7.Love yourself:

First step is loving your self, appreciate who you are and also remind yourself daily by writing a positive affirmation or quote on a sticky note and place it where you can see  it every day. Make sure it’s placed where it would always get your attention, Start with something like “I'm strong,I can do everything" and change it time to time,it would boost your self esteem and confidence.You deserve it.

8.Keep like minded people:

Always surround yourself with people that understand you. Be open to them, and also share articles about ADHD or tell them what it’s like,this would help them to understand you and what you are passing through better,you  can also find support groups online.Support from family, friends, and healthcare providers can be critical in managing ADHD. Support groups can also be helpful for individuals with ADHD, as they can provide a sense of community and offer practical tips and strategies for managing symptoms.

9.Write journal:

Writing out your thoughts and feelings, writing can help you work through what you’re experiencing and find calm,its feels like pouring out your mind. Developing organizational skills, such as using planners and setting reminders, can help individuals with ADHD stay on track with their tasks and responsibilities. Time management skills, such as breaking tasks down into smaller, manageable steps, can also be helpful.

10.Get a therapist:

Therapy is a  way of learning emotional regulation skills and self-acceptance. Accept therapy as one of the important personal training for your brain, sometimes, you would need alittle guide and love to help you put things in shape. There are many groups online that are available now and can makes therapy more convenient and affordable.Psychotherapy, such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), can be helpful in managing ADHD symptoms. CBT can help individuals develop strategies for managing their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors related to ADHD.

When you feel sad,frustrated, overstimulated about to crash ,take a time-out. You can decide to take a walk, sitting quietly, listen soothing music, watch movies or anything that makes you happy and calm you down. Always have the strength to remove yourself from situations that temper with your mental health.

12.Accept Situations:

Try learning to accept the emotions and situations that you experience without judgement can bring lotd  of relief. When you feel frustrated,anxious, or extremely sad,try not to fight it or try to the reason behind it.allow the thoughts to flow and go without judgement, tell yourself that everything would be fine and it would pass in time. Emotions don't last forever,they would make you uncomfortable for some time and then pass.
